Leave the car and from there by bus  heading towards the village Koxare , where we will meet one of the most impressive natural sights of Crete , Kourtaliotiko canyon flowing between mountains Kouroupa (984m) and Dry Mountain (904m) .

The rocky slopes of the gorge reach 600 meters and hide rich biodiversity. From inside passes Kourtaliotis River crossing of the gorge and flows into Lake Prevelis since joined the canyon Frati. The last piece of the river called Big River. Following the steps on the sides of the road Koxare – Asomatos arrive at the bottom of the gorge, in the church of  St.Nicholas. We are moving on the narrow built path and reach the bed of the canyon toward the south and the exit of the Libyan Sea. With the water in our companion since the beginning of the path to the exit of it, in many places you must swim in ponds formed under the waterfalls. The route is relatively difficult but you will be rewarded the most.

After about four hours we are in the stone arch bridge, built over the Grand River. After the bridge and on the right bank of the river starts a dirt road which we follow. After about 2km we reach a point of cypress. Right up seeing the church of Agia Paraskevi of the 14th century with it’s beautiful and well- preserved murals. Just behind the church, begins the marked and steep path that will lead us to the Parking over the lake Preveli.

Last piece of the journey 20 minutes downhill path leading to the beach of Preveli. There you can enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Libyan Sea and rest in the shade of palm trees on the river while waiting for the boat to Plakias.
